Tech Guru
Free tool

Build your firm's AI acceptable use policy in ten minutes.

Fifteen questions about your tools, your data, and your people. Out comes a policy your firm can adopt: which tools, which accounts, what may go into them, who reviews the output, and what to fix first. Free, no sign-up, delivered as a Word document.

  • Your answers stay in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
  • Written around IRC Section 7216, the FTC Safeguards Rule, and the profession’s confidentiality rule.
  • A policy in your firm’s name with an approved-tools register, a quick reference card, and an engagement letter paragraph.

Step 1 of 5 About the firm

1Your firm and the person who owns this policy

Usually a partner or the firm administrator. They approve tools and answer questions.

Changes: Fills the cover, the scope statement, and the approval and incident contacts.

2How many people work in the firm?

Changes: Sets how formal the approval and training sections are: a one-person rule set, or an owner plus a reviewer, or a committee.

3What does the firm do?

Pick everything that applies.

Changes: Names the kinds of client information the policy protects and adds the independence note for attest work.

4Who works with client data besides employees?

Changes: Extends the policy to contractors and seasonal staff, and adds cross-border rules for overseas personnel.

What you get, and what you do not

A policy people can follow. Not a ban, and not a free-for-all.

Built around the real question

What may go into an AI tool. The policy sorts information into classes, from public to restricted, and says exactly which class may enter which tool, in the stance you chose. Everything else follows from that rule.

Section 7216, handled honestly

Entering tax return information into a third-party AI service can be a use or a disclosure. The policy says so, and if you allow client data in approved tools it asks you to record the basis with counsel before the first prompt.

What it is not

It is not legal advice and it does not configure your tools for you. Business accounts with training off, retention set, and sharing off are a settings job; the action list tells you which. Generator version 1.0 (October 2026).
