The situation
A growing firm had built a talented team across four countries, but the technology had not kept up: team members were working on personal, unmanaged devices. Client data was living on computers the firm did not control, could not monitor, and could not wipe, an exposure the FTC Safeguards Rule squarely prohibits leaving unaddressed.
What we did
We set a compliant device standard, then made it real in every country: sourcing machines locally to the firm's requirements, staging and enrolling each one in the firm's management and security stack, and coordinating every handoff so nobody lost a working day. Personal devices were retired from client work as each managed endpoint went live.
The result
Six weeks after kickoff, every person in every country was working on a firm-managed, monitored, encrypted endpoint, with the device requirements enforced by policy rather than by trust. The firm went from its biggest compliance exposure to a security posture it can show clients and regulators.
On-premise Lacerte was failing. Three weeks later, 50+ users were in the cloud and the errors were gone.
The situation
The firm ran Lacerte on its own servers, and it was not working: frequent errors interrupting preparers, clunky remote access for anyone out of the office, and aging on-premise hardware that had to be maintained, patched, and eventually replaced.
What we did
We built the firm's environment on our Accounting Cloud hosting platform while the team kept working on the old system: nine years of Lacerte and QuickBooks Desktop data migrated and validated, access configured for every user, and the cutover scheduled outside business hours so the switch cost the firm nothing in productivity.
The result
Three weeks after the decision, all 50+ users were working in cloud-hosted Lacerte. The errors stopped. The on-premise servers were decommissioned, the clunky remote access went with them, and the firm's tax platform became something we run, monitor, and stand behind.
